Support FAQ
This document answers questions regarding problems users might face while operating Warp Pipe software.

Why can I not connect to others?
If you cannot connect to another user running Warp Pipe, the person trying to connect to you may not have TCP, port 4000 open or forwarded to the PC or Mac running Warp Pipe. Please make sure both of you are using the same version of Warp Pipe. If you have both verified that you are using the same version of Warp Pipe, please direct your opponent to our Routers, Firewalls, and Port Forwarding support page.

Why can't users connect to me?
If opponents cannot connect to you, you may not have TCP, port 4000 open or forwarded to the PC or Mac running Warp Pipe. Please make sure both of you are using the same version of Warp Pipe. If you have both verified that you are using the same version of Warp Pipe, please visit our Routers, Firewalls, and Port Forwarding support page.

I connect but Warp Pipe says "Initializing Connection" and/or "UDP Failure"
In this case, you and/or your opponent do not have UDP, port 4000 open or forwarded to the PC or Mac running Warp Pipe. Please check to see if Auto Port Forwarding was checked (by default). If it was and you still received this error, you must visit our Routers, Firewalls, and Port Forwarding support page and after properly configuring your router and/or firewall uncheck the Auto Port Forwarding option each time you use Warp Pipe.

I get a "Linking Error" message while trying to enter LAN mode
This is most commonly due to the GameCube’s inability to contact other devices on your network. Please make sure that the network cable is properly connected to the Nintendo GameCube Broadband Adapter and that the network cable is in good working condition. If you are unclear as to how your GameCube should be connected to your network, please visit our network setup portion of our getting started section.

I get a "Please Connect Nintendo GameCube Systems Only" message while trying to enter LAN mode
The message appears when a device on your opponent’s network conflicts with a device on your network. To solve this, simply press A and enter LAN mode again while staying connected on Warp Pipe. Normally a second try by the GameCube to acquire a new IP address solves this problem, however you may need to enter LAN mode once more to successfully bring your GameCube online.

What is Ping?
Ping is a command that measures the latency of data packets sent and received to a specific host, in milliseconds. This is important, as Warp Pipe generally requires a ping of 30ms or lower to achieve a full speed game online. Pinging each opponent will yield a different value, as your path to each opponent is different.

I get a "Linking Error" or "Disconnected" message in the middle of a game
Due to the instability and unpredictability of the Internet, game packets get lost every now and then which causes the GameCubes to loose their connection. Although this is a factor of online gaming, Warp Pipe has put error checking in place to prevent disconnects as much as possible.

I get a "Disconnect" message while selecting a course in 1080: Avalanche
While Warp Pipe 0.3.5 features a significant boost in 1080: Avalanche connection stability, there are still some minor quirks in the game’s protocol which lead to disconnects during course select. We look to solve these issues in version 0.4.

Why is the game play slow when I play certain people?
Game speed is directly relational with the ping from you to your opponent. Generally a 40ms ping or lower will yield an acceptable game speed. However pings of 100ms or lower still yield game speeds that are playable depending on the game.

Why does the game pause when I play certain people?
Due to the instability and unpredictability of the Internet, some game packets may be slow to travel across the internet from one GameCube to another. In cases like these, you will notice jerky game play or what may seem as "pauses" while playing a game. Make sure that you and your opponent are not doing any CPU intensive activities such as burning a CD or DVD while using Warp Pipe. Also, make sure nobody is downloading large amounts of data on the network; this will significantly slow your game down. The best way to prevent this from happening is shutting down any p2p applications that may be running on the network (LimeWire, Kazaa, etc).

Why does Warp Pipe appear then disappear when I launch it in Mac OSX 10.0 or 10.1?
Warp Pipe currently supports Mac OS X 10.2 (Jaguar) and 10.3 (Panther). If you are using OS X 10.0 or 10.1, we suggest upgrading to the latest version.

Why do I get an error "Failed to Bind to Listen Control Socket"?
This is due to the TCP socket not properly timing out. Simply close the Warp Pipe application and wait a minute or two. After waiting, you should be able to launch Warp Pipe and use it without a problem. If this is not the case shut it down and wait a bit longer, as the TCP socket hasn’t closed yet. This will no longer be an issue with version 0.4, as all TCP communication will be done through a central server.

Why do I get an error "Failed to Load Library"?
This message occurs because you have moved WarpPipe.exe out of the directory that it was installed. If you wish to move the application, please move the entire directory it was installed to because it needs to access the WarpPipe.dll to function properly. If you wish to launch Warp Pipe from your taskbar or desktop, we recommend you create a shortcut to the application in its original install directory instead of moving the exe.

Why does Warp Pipe ask me for my password when I launch it on OSX?
Warp Pipe requires admin access to operate since it uses reads and processes raw sockets. Please make sure the username and password you provide Warp Pipe has administrator privileges.

Why does Warp Pipe ask me for my Linux/BSD root password?
Warp Pipe requires root access to operate since it uses reads and processes raw sockets.

What is WarpPipe.log and where can I find it?
WarpPipe.log is a log file that captures the output that Warp Pipe has generated during the last time it was run. The information provided in the log file helps detect the root of any problems that might have occurred during your connection attempt.

Does Warp Pipe support wireless game adapters?
Not at this time, however we do plan on supporting wireless game adapters in version 0.4. Warp Pipe does support network setups where the PC or Mac running Warp Pipe is wirelessly connected, however the GameCube must be wired. For a detailed account of supported network setups, please visit the network setup portion of our getting started section.
