OS X Alpha Released

The time has come. Steve Jobs and Bill Gates can now play their favorite GameCube title, Mario Kart: Double Dash!!, without having to travel to San Jose or Redmond respectively. That's right folks, Warp Pipe OS X (Alpha) has been released to the public for immediate download. The application is compatible with Windows 0.3 Beta, the interface is very basic and there are some known issues, read on for the details.

When connecting to another person, you must designate both ip and port. For example, if you want to connect to the IP 123.45.67.8, you must type in 123.45.67.8:4000. Also, when closing the program, the daemon (anothercastle) may hang. If this happens, kill the process and then start the program over. Also, any preferences you set will not be saved when you close the program. All these issues will be fixed in the next version.

Development on our next Beta release, Windows and Mac OS X Beta 0.31, is shaping up nicely. It will include support for 1080: Avalanche, stability, and fixes for all known 0.3 Beta bugs.

When will the whole "FIRST TO POST!!!!" thing catch on here?

Let's pray this thread doesnt generate into a you know what.

But on a lighter note I suggest evolving Warp Pipe OS X to enable a 1100 G5s + 1100 GameCubes mega-cluster, making it the 2nd or 3rd fastest super computer in the world :) It would be able to run a real-time voxel rendered remake of Super Mario 64 with a 3200x3200x3200 volumetric resolution. Anyway thanks for the Mac port, I guess the UNIX foundations of OS X makes this easier than ever, thats also probably why OS X now have ports of GBA dev kits available.

When why did the beta for windows and linux get released and not the OS X version ? Is the OSX veriosn not as far along ?

i think the only question on every ones mind is when the hell is nintendo goin to release super smash brothers melee with the same features as mario cart double dash so we can play it online too, i think when that happens every one will sell their playstations if they had to, to buy a gamecube and super smash brothers melee and it will push them one step further in the game wars, coz we all know nintendo rules and i hate the fact that most of the third party developers turned their backs on nintendo, after it was them that helped them get their foot in the door and helped them start their perspective game franchise

Now I can't find the OS X download link.

Very happy to see that there is a Mac version!

bahamiandude1: I agree completely. I hope nintendo soon realizes that online gaming is what people want. It's sad that a third party has to bring the gamecube online (not that warppipe isnt doing a great job.)

Hopefully, wifi willl be suported soon so i can play.

I just wanted to say, this isn't the first time a 3rd party group has developed online play for a Nintendo. Either too many of you were still in diapers or something to realize, or some of you have just forgotten. But around 1994 to 1997 or so, I played Mario Kart online all the time, I even helped beta test it, that was on SuperNES, Super Nintendo, this online device that I had, was called XBAND. And there was one for the Sega Genesis too. I was able to play Super Street Fighter 2, Mortal Kombat 2, Mario Kart, Killer Instint, DOOM, and sports games, and others too. All of these games ran perfect just about (except for DOOM, which was crap anyways for SNES, and there were only 2 beach levels on Mario Kart that didnt work) I even won a tournement on XBAND playing Killer Instinct, I won a T shirt! But heres my complaint, I havent bought a GameCube modem adaptor yet, but its coming to me, and I'll hook this warppipe up. I have a friend who uses it, he plays Mario Kart DD on it, he says theres plenty of lag and plenty of problems on this system. Yes, I understand its free, yes I understand its in beta testing, yes, I understand all the basic details about this software combo with Gamecube and the computer. But heres my real question, if in the mid 90s, I could play Mario Kart on SNES, with a 2400 bps modem, (XBAND), and it work almost perfect, why on a DSL, or broadband connection, is the Gamecube Mario Kart SLOW???? Because my other friend tells me, there are many commands sent back and forth to interact on online games (except maybe a bit more on MMORPGs) and most of the complex instructions are just the game running on the Gamecube, not the actual data being sent from one person to the other. I know this isn't 16bit, but come on, besides the graphics and sound being upgraded a bit, Mario Kart is still that same Mario Kart from the SNES days, no matter what anyone tells me. The Gameplay is almost identical!!!

One other thing, all these games I used to play online with XBAND and SNES perfectly, WERE NOT designed for modem or LAN connection, but they figured it out then, whats the deal now??? But good job anyways for the great effort (people working on Warppipe) I'll be online tryin it out in a bit though! Itsa Mario time!!!!

God had some serious quality-control problems.
