In light of recent events, we reevaluated our decision to remain closed source. We have come to a final decision, despite our alpha 2 source being made public without our consent, that we will remain a closed source project. We have officially terminated our relationship with SourceForge and we are moving forward in order to remove the project from its pages.
We are moving forward, full steam, with the development of our beta. Warp Pipe beta will be our next release, and we will be seeking partnerships from third parties interested in hosting mirrors of beta and future releases. We hope to have beta released by the end of the year. Beta will support residential DSL and Cable broadband with either a router or 2 NIC setup (no router needed).
Our 1.0 application will feature simple xml-based skinning for the web developer and artist community. 1.1 will have full object-based xml skinning which will allow for total customization of the application. Look for those SDKs and more to be released prior to the launch of our 1.0 application. This will allow interested designers and Nintendo related websites to create skins to promote their websites and works just in time for the release of our 1.0 application. Also, our 1.1 application will show a commitment to the interested development community, as we will be releasing a series of plugin model SDKs that will enable developers to extend the functionality of Warp Pipe as they wish.

That is all, continue playing with your lego chad.
Posted by: Mad.Whack at November 13, 2003 01:44 PMGood to see you guys have come to a final conclusion. I really can't blame you on the whole closed-source thing. Hopefully you will remain committed to your community though.
I hope that you can now put all the crap behind you and work on developing a real product without all the whining and finger pointing, and focus on what you originally wanted, a tool to help GameCube owners everywhere.
Posted by: Ryan Gregg at November 13, 2003 01:50 PMAs stated on the forums, I may be able to offer webspace as a download mirror for Warp Pipe files, if you guys require it.
Posted by: liquidcross at November 13, 2003 02:33 PMI might be able to put it on my Comcast site also. Also, can you please have an option to not have it skinned?
Posted by: ssj4android at November 13, 2003 04:39 PMThanks for the offers. As beta grows near, I will post a formal request message with the requirements.
As for the application, of course there will be a "standard" skin which will look like your standard operating system application.

Grow up and stop acting like a child. You're one of those 'MS is better than Nintendo' kiddies aren't you?
To: Chad
Keep up the good work and ignore such half assed comments such as that person at the top :)
Posted by: wasabi at November 13, 2003 06:01 PMSo, the beta will not be available till the end of year. Will there be any version released around the release of MK:DD!! ?
Or will only testers be able to play when Mario Kart is first released?
Posted by: Dan at November 13, 2003 07:54 PMWould the beta be only for PC users or would the beta be compatible w/ Mac OSX?
as a side note... thank you (Warp Pipe) for bringing the GCN online once and for all!!

Posted by: David at November 13, 2003 08:26 PMWho placed the code on Sourceforge to begin with?
Posted by: Trivista at November 14, 2003 09:39 AMClosed source?
What for?
Are you planning to build a business on your little Gamecube tunneling proxy?
Hahahaaaa... oh.. you're serious... Hahahaha....
Posted by: Dirk at November 14, 2003 12:43 PMIf you've read any part of his site at all you'd see he is not going to go "corporate whore". So what if he wants it closed source? Some of us are just eager to be able to play online with gamecube. If you want something else, -build- it for yourself Dirk.
Posted by: Nathan at November 14, 2003 05:48 PMNintendo is for kids? Damn, maybe somebody hasn't seen the kiddie OS MS makes.
Posted by: at November 15, 2003 07:43 AMHello
Seems be a nice proiject, but i dont understand the closed source on this project...
Could be nice port this program to other plattforms that arent win32... linux, mac, morphos...
MorphOS is the SO that i use, runs on a PPC machine, Pegasos www.pegasosppc.com
Im sure that i will can find some developers for the port...
Regards,
timofonic
I know it's not much, but I can give you up to 2 gigs of downloads a month on my server if you need it.
Also, if you are going closed-source have you explored any options to sell it for a small price? I bet you could sell it for a buck or 2 and make it worth your while. I'd be interested in becomming a dealer if you decide to sell.
Posted by: Chris Hughes at November 15, 2003 05:33 PMWe are not interested in making money off of GameCube tunneling. Warp Pipe will always remain free.
Posted by: Chad at November 15, 2003 06:30 PMSo, why is it closed source, then? Do you have a problem with other people using your sources? Would you feel "abused"?
Posted by: Dirk at November 16, 2003 05:31 AMI give these guys a hand if I were the harsh critics up there. If any of them are half-ass programmers/engineers, they should know the commitment it takes to write the code. Or they are just a bunch of middle school punks who should know better.
Posted by: Coji at November 16, 2003 06:16 AMACK! I've been rendered apoplectically speechless.
1) Why in the world aren't you open source? Nothing but good can come of being open source unless:
a) you think that by keeping the code 533CR3T you can create a market for the software and make money. Get real. You can make money and still give out the source.
b) you are embarrassed by your coding skills.
2) Skinning? Because we really need to have Britney backgrounds in the text field where we type in our buddy's IP address.
Stop fucking around.
Posted by: Ray Greenwell at November 16, 2003 01:48 PMOK I dont get the whole deal with "open source" and "closed source" - do you mean to say that when the beta is complete, it will be available to the public (i.e. released by you)? I guess what Im really asking is that despite going closed-source, will the beta be available to the rest of us Nintendo gamers?
Peace dude.
Hey Chad
Is this project also gone work in Europe (Netherlands) and if it is could you please send me some info about what you need for your computer and Gamecube.
Thanks.
Hey Chad,
I just wanted to say, keep up the good work, you have thousands of people looking up to your work.
If you have any general information about Warp-Pipe then I would be very very grateful.
Don't make time for it, you have more important work to do, heh.
Thanks again,
Smug

Yea if you guys ever wanna try a long distance test (i live in New Zealand) then I would be more than willing to help :).
Keep up the good work!
As a member of the XLink Crew, I think it's time you people started to thank the OTHER members of the WPP. Heck, hardly anybody knows who they are...
All we see is this "Chad" frontman who stirs trouble. Any bet the real guys behind this project are the ones who really deserve the accolades.
As I've previously heard from yourself before, it's just an opinion. My opinion of you isn't the greatest, but I'm surprised the other devs. have stuck by you. Or have they all left you? Who knows, we never hear from them....
Posted by: dfunked at November 17, 2003 04:30 AM"I'm surprised the other devs. have stuck by you. Or have they all left you? Who knows, we never hear from them...."
They might do the thing I hope all developers do, DEVELOP, not live their life on the forums all day... ;P
Man I thought the WPP team had contacted xlink and patched up the issue. Now some xlink wanna-be (why would you wanna-be anyway?) trying to start it up again. And closed source being "bad coding skills"? Why don't you try coding one and see how good it gets?
Posted by: reveragew at November 17, 2003 07:55 AMreveragew:
There will always be fanboy (on BOTH sides) that can't get along.
However, I think the Xlink crew + WPP crew have somehow buried the waraxe, or am I wrong?
Posted by: NeoBlizz at November 17, 2003 12:27 PMYes, I've spoken to the lead of xlink several times and we have been able to set aside our differences. There should not be any remaining hostility left over on either side.
Posted by: Chad at November 17, 2003 02:39 PMIs the beta released? Somehow, I have a copy of it....
Posted by: Vanish3r at November 23, 2003 06:17 PMNon-free? No thanks!
